About Us

A prototype student-run high school-based program can illustrate incremental but important gains. As a proof-of-concept, a project will be initiated at Montgomery Blair High School to help teens recognize their impact on air pollution and how they can limit this negative impact. Before winter break 2009, students sign up to participate and fill out a form that tells where they plan to travel and by what means. Student volunteers then use this information to calculate the carbon emissions of each student and the number of trees that would be needed to plant for neutralizing this carbon output. Students will be asked to contribute a dollar-for-tree equivalent which would be submitted to Carbon Fund and Arbor Day Foundation. Students who sign up to participate in this program and who neutralize their carbon output will be entered into a raffle to win prizes. In this program, students are able to recognize the negative impact they have on the planet and accept accountability for their actions by planting trees to limit this impact.
